A series that explores the depth and mystery of what it means to be alive.
For me, contemplative practices like meditation and breath-work have offered deep perspective, particularly perspective of myself. Engaging in these kinds of practices consistently has shown me that I am more than I think I am. My goal was to put the feeling of this perspective and growth into a piece of work. This series attempts to capture a symbol of the ever growing, expanding psyche.

Blue Mind

24" x 36"
Alcohol inks and epoxy resin on aluminum panel

The term ‘Blue Mind’ was coined by marine biologist Dr. Wallace Nichols who theorized that water helped place the mind into a mild meditative state that can be characterized by a disposition toward peace, calm, and ‘flow’.We all have a sacred relationship with water, and in a way it’s where we as people come from. It’s why so many of us vacation near lakes or the ocean. Water not only keeps us alive, it makes us come more alive. My goal was to create a piece of art that can access the same state of mind brought by water. It mimics its flow, has a softness as well as strength, is inviting yet mysterious.
